1.- SPIRIT ONE (C.Soumillon)
2.- BALIUS (M.Blancpain)
3.- ASPECTUS (S.Pasquier)
A VISIT to Royal Ascot may be on the cards for Spirit One after the four-year-old's demolition of five rivals yesterday in the Prix Exbury on heavy ground at Saint- Cloud, writes Desmond Stoneham.
Christophe Soumillon enjoyed an armchair ride in the first Group race of the European season.
Although Spirit One was a high-class juvenile, he failed to score last term. Always travelling well within himself yesterday, the son of Anabaa Blue was at the head of affairs early in the straight and quickened like a class act to score by three lengths eased down from Balius.
Trainer Philippe Demercastel said: "I have had four runners in England to date and never been out of the money and one of my objectives is the Prince of Wales's Stakes at Ascot after the Prix Ganay.
"Christophe got to know the horse today and he had to go early in the straight as there was nothing left to take him along," he added. "The style of this victory was not a surprise and he will progress considerably for the outing."
THE Yves de Nicolay-trained Top Toss, winner of the Group 3 Prix d'Aumale as a two-year-old, impressed when taking the Listed Prix Rose de Mai with plenty in hand on her three-year-old debut.
Handy throughout in the hands of Thierry Thulliez, the grey daughter of Linamix was not flat out to beat the favourite Vadsalina by a couple of lengths.
Anacarde (Jean-Claude Rouget/ Christophe Lemaire) comfortably took the other Listed race on the card, the Prix Maurice Caillault over 1m21/2f.
