6 Abr. USA. Las Flores H. G3. Santa Anita Park. 6,5f. Dirt. 150.000 $
1.- TIZ ELEMENTAL (V.Espinoza)
2.- GLORIFIED (R.Bejarano)
3.- INTANGAROO (A.Quinonez)
Warren Williamson’s homebred Tiz Elemental unleashed a burst of speed in the final strides of the $150,000 Las Flores Handicap (G3) to win by a neck on Sunday at Santa Anita Park.
The win marked the first graded stakes score for the four-year-old Cee’s Tizzy filly, who extended her win streak to four in the Las Flores. She entered off a three-quarter-length victory in the Honest Lady Stakes on February 24 at Santa Anita in her first start in nearly ten months for trainer Carla Gaines.
Last season, she won an allowance/optional claiming race on April 5 at Santa Anita and the Melair Stakes on April 29 at Hollywood Park. She subsequently was sidelined when a bone chip was discovered in her knee.
Sent off as the 8-to-5 favorite in the Las Flores, Tiz Elemental raced in fourth as Overly Tempting set a swift pace through an opening quarter in :21.04. Jockey Victor Espinoza swung Tiz Elemental three wide and she moved within one length of Overly Tempting in early stretch.
Tiz Elemental rallied under strong urging by Espinoza to overtake Overly Tempting and held back a determined late bid by Glorified. She completed 6 1/2 furlongs in 1:14.12 on the all-weather surface.
“There was a pretty good pace,” Espinoza said. “The filly on the lead [Overly Tempting] was going fast and we were up close, but it felt like she was just galloping along. She’s not a great worker, but she loves to win. On race day, she’s unbelievable. She’s all about winning.”
Glorified finished a neck in front of Santa Monica Handicap (G1) winner Intangaroo. Overly Tempting faded to fourth.
Out of the Grade 3-winning Great Commotion mare Blending Element (Ire), Tiz Elemental improved to five wins in seven career starts and has earned $393,260. She is a full sister to stakes winner Tiz a Blend.
