Pacesetter Jonesboro drew clear late under steady handling by jockey Calvin Borel to win the $149,000 Razorback Handicap (G3) on Saturday at Oaklawn Park.

The six-year-old chestnut Sefapiano horse broke cleanly from the gate and seized the lead in the 1 1/16-mile race, setting the pace through a half-mile in :47.75 on a track rated as fast. Multiple graded stakes winner Gouldings Green provided constant pressure on the leader, racing within a head of Jonesboro through six furlongs in 1:12.67.

Gouldings Green weakened late to finish second as 4-to-5 favorite Jonesboro crossed the wire in 1:44.21.

Grade 2 winner Going Ballistic finished another 2 1/14 lengths back in third.

In his 2008 debut, Michael Langford's Jonesboro finished second to Spotsgone in the Essex Handicap on February 9 at Oaklawn, a race Jonesboro won in ‘07. Jonesboro finished last year with a win in the seven-furlong Sam's Town Stakes.

Bred by Jayeff "B" Stables, Jonesboro is out of the Top Command mare Mom's Command, champion three-year-old filly of 1985 and a 2007 National Museum of Racing Hall of Fame inductee.
