13 Abr. USA. Las Cienagas H. G3. Santa Anita Park. 6,5f. Turf. 100.000 $
1.- LIGHTMYFIREBABY (A.Solis)
2.- WAKE UP MAGGIE (T.Baze)
3.- SUPER FREAKY (C.Nakatani)

Lightmyfirebaby closed willingly between foes late for second place in the $112,700 Las Cienegas Handicap (G3) on Sunday at Santa Anita Park but was subsequently awarded the victory following the disqualification of first-place finisher Bahama Mama (Ire) for interference.

As the field turned for home on the downhill turf course and crossed the all-weather surface, Bahama Mama, who led the field through for a half-mile, veered out badly and interfered with Lightmyfirebaby and Super Freaky, causing a chain reaction as several others were forced to alter their course.

Bahama Mama recovered when returning to the grass and continued on under David Flores to finish one-length in front of Lightmyfirebaby.

Immediately following the race, Alex Solis, who was aboard Lightmyfirebaby, claimed a foul against Bahama Mama. Following a steward’s inquiry, Bahama Mama was disqualified from first and placed fourth behind 7-to-5 favorite Wake Up Maggie (Ire), who was moved up to second from third and Super Freaky, who was elevated to third after finishing fourth in the 11-horse field.

Bahama Mama, a Group 2-placed multiple stakes winner in Europe, and Wake Up Maggie, a Group 3 winner in England, were both making their United States debuts.

“They made the right call,” Solis said. “We were head and head before we crossed the [synthetic surface] and [bumping] cost me a length and a half. We got beat a length.”

Time for the 6 1/2-mile race was 1:13.25 on turf rated as firm.

Trained by Barry Abrams, Lightmyfirebaby entered off a runner-up finish in the Valentine Dancer Handicap on April 6 after securing her first stakes victory in the Irish O’Brien Stakes on March 17, both at Santa Anita.

Out of the Valid Appeal mare True Melody, Lightmyfirebaby is a half sister to stakes winner Miss Guts. She improved to five wins in 17 career starts while earning $293,546.
